Rat infestation

Rats and mice pose health risks through the spread of diseases and contamination of food and surfaces. They commonly originate from outdoor areas and gain entry into buildings through small openings. To keep rats and mice at bay, it’s essential to seal entry points, store food in secure containers, and maintain proper sanitation practices.

How can you prevent a Rat infestation in your home?

  1. Keep food in metal or glass containers with tight-fitting lids.
  2. Clean inside the house and around the garden – less clutter means fewer places to hide.
  3. Put outdoor garbage bags in metal garbage cans with securely fitted lids to stop them from feeding on contents.
  4. Clean up pet food and bird seed debris, and store pet food in robust containers with fitted lids – preferably above ground level.
  5. Keep gardens free from debris and keep clutter to a minimum.
  6. If you have a compost heap don’t include organic food waste, as this will attract them.
  7. If you have already spotted signs of rats, such as droppings, prevention may already be too late.
